Adjoining Garscadden Woods, as the last house in Bearsden, a private, mature garden plot is tucked away offering privacy and woodland views. The owners have lovingly created a beautiful garden and needed a new kitchen extension to accompany it.

Whilst this property boasted ample accommodation over three levels, and the Clients children had grown up and moved out, the one thing they lacked was a kitchen that enjoyed the beautiful garden views. A dated country kitchen was located a the front of the property with a small front window, which overlooked the drive and garage. As keen cooks, our clients longed to have a modern open plan kitchen, dining space, to allow them to entertain for their guests and to connect this with their enviable garden in the summer months.

Varying levels, meant we needed to step down into the kitchen to allow a flush level patio, to connect from the large sliding screens by Sunflex [installed by Mitchell Glass]. The minimal sightlines and sleek black frames were a critical part of the design, and a flush threshold was important to allow them to open and create a flow to outside that was lacking in the current layout. A picture window frames the garden to the South, where the house overlooks the woods, and often deer come for a visit. An otherwise simple palette of materials, red brick and grey roof tiles were selected to blend in with the existing property in a contemporary but respectful manner.

The garden has been landscaped by the Client allowing mature beds, lawned areas and feature seating in various locations with new water features installed to the raised patio with glass balustrades, creating a modern addition to the stunning grounds.

A seamless ridge rooflight was installed over the kitchen island for further natural light, and feature pendants sail over the island unit, with bar seating. The beautiful kitchen was supplied and installed by Kitchens International with high end appliances, worktop, units and integrated hob, downdraught extraction adding to the seamless design.
